About Professional Jewelry Investigations

Robert James is a native Texan, having lived in Bowie and Corpus Christi. Robert has been in the jewelry business for 48 years, starting as a janitor for Zales Jewelers in Denton, Texas in 1971 while attending North Texas State University. Over the years he has worked his way up to the highest level of gemological expertise as a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, considered the “Ph.D.” of the jewelry industry education level. Robert has worked as Estate Jewelry Buyer for a major department store chain, owned retail jewelry stores, served as Island Manager for one of the largest retail jewelry store groups in the Caribbean, and worked in the Property and Casualty Division of USAA insurance in the USAA Gem Lab. Upon leaving USAA, Robert was retained by Chubb Europe to perform damage evaluations and investigations on high value jewelry claims in the United Kingdom. Robert traveled to London to perform evaluations on million dollar damaged diamond claims.

Currently, Robert is a Property and Casualty Insurance Adjuster with the Texas Department of Insurance, specializing in high value jewelry claims and investigations.  He is a member of the National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters, and has written certified Continuing Education courses for many US State Insurance offices.

Robert has served as expert witness in both State and Federal Court Cases from California to Florida, and has been the primary expert witness in litigation cases involving multi-million dollar claims.
